BIG CRICKET.

ENGLISHMEN’S TOUR. BARDSLEY MAKES 160. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. SYDNEY, Nov. 23. The cricket match between England and New South Wales was resumed yesterday, the attendance being 34,000. The first day’s play ended with New South Wales having scored 242 for seven wickets. Yesterday this score was carried to 271, and the Englishmen replied with 193, stumps then being drawn. The weather was fine but dull when New South Wales resumed their innings with Bardsley 142 and Nothing 4. The wicket was a bit. dead, but under the influence of a fair breeze it was drying. Gilligan and Tate opened, the bowling. . Bardsley, who reached 150 in 245 minutes, had a narrow escape from being run out owing to a quick return by Sandham. Ten runs later he tried to pull the hall round to the on, but he mishit and Tyldesley ran up and caught him. Bardsley, had a great reception on returning' to the pavilion. He had; been batting for 258 minutes, and hit 10 fours.

' The remaining batsmen held the crease only eight minutes longer. Tyldeslev’s performance with the ball was really much better than the figures indicate, and he. was always carefully watched. Strudwick behind the wickets played excellently, the*extras that were gained being excusable. Hobbs and Sutcliffe were the first to take strike for the Englishmen to the bowling of Gregory and Scott. The latter is a fast bowler, and he kept the runs down. Hobbs went out to a remarkably fine catch bv Gregory. He just touched a fast one of Scott’s, and Gregory at fine slip jumped and caught the ball in his left hand. He dropped it, but lie recovered it again. When Sutcliffe was 11 he skied a ball, and three men made for it but they stopped. It was really Scott’s ball. Owing to the injury to his thumb Bardsley’s place in the field was taken by Morgan. Gregory, who was fielding well, dismissed Kilher and Douglas with fine catches in the slips. Mailey kept the batsmen - watchful, and then sent down a full toss to Sandham, who pulled it to square leg, where Nothling was waiting. Sandham had batted for 76 minutes, and the fourth wicket added 47 runs. .Tate’s wicket fell just on the tea adjournment. He was at first credited with three less than he really got owing to the umpire signalling byes. Gilligan followed after tea, and was warmly received. Hendren played cautiously. He gave a hot chance to Gregory when 42, and a few minutes later the same fieldsman got Gilligan .with another remarkable left hand catch. Rain commenced at 4.45.

With the advent of Tyldesley. play livened up.- He stepped out and indulged in many good hits, and he had several escapes. Runs came faster, and the fieldsmen were kept moving. The partnership .made 50 in 33 minutes. After batting for 44 minutes Tyldesley was clean bowled by Gregory. He was the first man to go out in this manner. He hit five fours. The'ninth wicket Ridded 59. . / Strudwick did not last long, being run out while attempting to sneak one. < Hendren batted for 162 minutes. The , innings lasted 206 minutes. Details: . . ‘.
