MACHINE TO SEE THROUGH WALLS.
PORTABLE X-RAYS FOR ■ PLUMBERS. PHILADELPHIA. Sept. 17. Dr. W. D. Coolidge, addressing 800 scientists attending the centenary celebrations of the Franklin Institute to-day introduced a new r portable X-ray machine, which is no larger than a wireless battery and weighs onlv thirty pounds. It operates on ordinary household, lighting current. . Dr. C'oolidge pointed out that it would be useful to builders, plumbers, and electricians, by enabling them to look through w r alls and floors. Dr. W. D. Coolidpe is the famous inventor of the Coolidge X-ray tube which put X-ray work on an entirely neiv footing, as it made the rays far easier to control. It was because of this tube that the photography of steel castings, aeroplane parts, and shells was rendered possible during the war.
