The trial is described as a farce'* and the sentence as an infamous act of vengeance. Even the moderate Tageblatt is an S r y, and says, that unless the sentence ,is promptly quashed it will be an incredible disgrace for French democracy and the Herriot Cabinet. Nationalist papers demand German reprisals. Undoubtedly the German Government will take further action, especially as the verdict would be good election, propaganda for the Nationalists against a policy of reconciliation with France.
