CARGO PILLAGING.
WATERSIDER SENTENCED. SHIPPING COMPANIES’ LOSSES. (BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION. . AUCKLAND, Nov. 21. A waterside worker named Harold Cyril Howe Francis, for pillaging cargo, was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment.
Chief Detective Cummings stated that for the 12 months ended) June 30 cargo pillaged from the New Zealand Shipping Company amounted to £1938 and goods short delivered totalled £3705. Cargo pillaged from the Union Company for the 12 months ended July 31, 1924, amounted to £782 and goods short delivered £3546, making a grand total of £10,021. Mr Poynton. S.M., said that accused for two years had been either broaching cargo, or helping to and stealing portions of it.
