MANY WORKERS IDLE. SERIOUS POSITION. BY CABLE—PEESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. Received Nov. 21, 1.5 p.m. LONDON, Nov. 20. A lightning strike occurred this morning at the London dock cold storage warehouse,. and it spread vapidly all over the riverside. Cold storage workers are’ idle. An official of the union referred to stated that the cold storage company was responsible, and added that tfid trouble was due to some men objecting to the employers’ right to employ whom they pleased. Certain workers thought that they had a prior claim to those engaged. ‘No emu ley ee could tolerate this,. Vital principles were at stake. »

After a meeting the cold storage section of the Transport Union at the Thompson Docks, the group secretary said that the strike was due to. a refusal to employ one of the most active members of the Transport Union, which the men regarded as victimisation.' The men would remain out until a satisfactory settlement was reached. Meanwhile the matter will be submitted to the Executive of the Transport Union. ' The strike lias not yet appreciably affected Smifchfield market, but as all the- Union Cold Storage Company’s men are out those relying on the company will be without supplies immediately. , Srrtith'field and London market meat supplies are exhausted, and Covent Garden is affected, inasmuch as some foreign fruit is held by this company. The strike is uneffieia 1, and the Transport Union is inquiring into the matter.—Reuter.
