Mr Egglestoiie, district manager of the Public Trust Office, Nelson, is spending his leave in Hawera. He was at one time relieving manager at the local office.' He is accompanied by Mrs Egglestone and family. Mr. T. Hawkes, who is well known Hawera, left this morning for Christchurch. He was farewelled at the station by a number of his friends.
Mr Geo. Castle, who is an honorary life member of the Egmont Agricultural and Pastoral Association, was not able to be present •on this occasion owing to indisposition. Mr Caetle, who has not been keeping too well of late, : told a Star representative that this was the first show he had missed since its inception, he having been able to take an active part in every 6how for the last 40 years. The death has occurred of a wellknown resident of Marlborough in the person of Mrs. Jeannie Boyce, wife of Mr. John Boyce, of Remyicktown.. She arrived in Marlborough from Ayrshire (Scotland) with her husband 45 years ago, and was 76 year s of age. She leaves a husband and a family of five sons (three of whom are at Tokamaru and two at Renwicktown), and three daughters.
The death took place at her residence, Devonport, Auckland, of Mrs. C Lund, widow of the late John A. Lund! During the Maori wars Mrs. Lund went through some exciting experiences. Sh e was alsoa witness of the wreck of H.M.S. Orpheus on the Manukau bar, her husband and brother helping to man the lifeboat in which some of the crew were rescued. «
Still hale and hearty, although 94 years of age, Mrs. W. Oatt, of Pine Street, Mastertou, and mother of Mrs. Judd Bridge Street, Elthani, celebrated her birthday actively last Monday week'. To- Gladstone, in which district she is well known, Mrs. Catt was motored by her family. In that district, Mrs. Gatt found much to remind her of her early days. Under a big gum tree planted on the Gladstone f ‘at over 49 years ago, by Mrs. Catt, the party had afternoon tea. Twen tvtour years ago Mrs. Oatt lost her husband. She can look down four generations of her family, the order being. Mrs. Judd, the late Mrs. Harry SP'tlL rs - Fred Gear; and Master Milton Gear. She has also manv grand-children and great grandchildren. Mrs, Catt is hale, and heartv and threatens, reports'an exchange, to pass the age mark of her old Gladstone friend and neighbour, the late Mrs. John Vile, senr., of Pahiatua, who died at the ripe old age of 103 years.
