OPERA HOUSE—TO-NIGHT
“THE ARIZONA EXPRESS.”
“The Arizona Express,” the William Fox production presented for the first time at the Opera House last night, was enthusiastically received by a packed house. Carter has imagined an up-to-date story, and applied to it the rules of melodrama with telling effect. Your blood will tingle as you witness one highly dramatic sequence after another and when the Arizona express plunges from a trestle into the river, the cars catapulting one upon the other and the engine hissing great clouds of steam, you will grip the arms of the chair of your neighbour and hold your breath. The good old melodrama has a place on the screen—a great big place, and “The Arizona Express” proves it. An excellent cast appears in this production, which was directed by Tom Buckingham. Pauline Starke is the ingenue lead; Harold Goodwin plays the juvenile male lead, j i’he second feature was Billy Sullivan jin round 19 of “The New Leather 1 Pub hers. ” The third feature is the I “All Blacks v. Devon,”-the first pici ture of our representatives in England. A comprehensive picture of the Devon match has been secured, from the preliminary haka to the final | whistle. This picture met with a great | reception. The entire programme will be repeated to-night, when another j packed .house is assux-ed, so patrons ; advised to book their seats to avoid disappointment. | GRAND THEATRE— TO-NIGHT. j DEMPSEY v. GIBBONS. A fight picture worthy of the name, not a mere two rounds, but 15 oxciting rounds, will be presented at the Grand Theatre to-night, when patrons will he able to see the big battle between Jack Dempsey and Tom Gibbon*-. Since Dempsey won the title by knocking out big Jess Willard he Ims proved invincible, and Gibbons is the only man who has gone the scheduler! distance with the champion. Most of his challengers Dempsey has been able to beat mto submission in double quick time, hut, not only did Gibbons extend the rit-le holder over the full course of ofteen rounds, but, according to many, he was verv unlucky not to receive the decision. Hard, gruelling fighting cba.r acterises the whole contest. .A lent supporting programme will be presented. including Mary Anderson' in “Bluebeard Junior.”
