In ideal weather and on a good wicket the match between England and Victoria was continued to-day befor a. crowd of 6000. The Englishmen, who had two. wickets down for 38 runs in their second innings when stumps were drawn yesterday, resumed their batting and oarried their score to 241, this being one run more than in the first innings. This left the Victorians to get 253 runs for a win, and when stumps were drawn the score stood at 111 for the loss of one wicket.

Sandham (30) and Woolley (11) resumed batting in England’s second innings. Hartkopf and Wallace took up the bowling, Ryder being absent. Wallace was bumping. A quarter of an hour’s play brought the hundred up. Hartkopf bowled a maiden, and then Sandham rached the forties. He then drove Hartkopf for two. Woodful. at long off, caught Woolley off Tarrant’s first ball. Tarrant had now taken three wickets for two runs. Hendren came in, and with a late cut off Hartkopf got four. Sandham was barracked for not hitting at one from Hartkopf, hut the next ball the batsman drove him for two and reached fifty, receiving a cheer. Hendren pulled one to the fence off Hartkopf, whose average was suffering. Hendry went on and sent down a maiden. Then Sandham played one on. He had batted 118 minutes and bit four boundaries. Wallace made an unsuccessful appeal for leg before when Hendren was 25, and Ponsford, at; mid-on, dropped a difficult one. It was a hard chance. Hendren and Douglas were cheered and advised to hit out. Then Tarrant replaced Wallace and got Douglas first ball. Hendren hit a single off" Hendry and was nearing fifty. Gilligan was applauded on coming in, but Hendry was deadly and soon got him with a beautiful ball. Mayne, in slips, ( dropped Freeman from a none too difficult chance. The innings closed for 241. Hearne strained a ligament of his leg and did not bat. Mayne and Park opened Victoria's second strike to the bowling of Douglas and Gilligan. The latter got Park in the second over with a ball that swung in. Mayne and Woddfull both drove Gilligan for three. Sandham was applauded for fielding at deep mid-on.

Douglas appealed against Mayne when the latter was eight amidst, some heckling. Woodfull gave two fiances to Freeman and Woolley off their own bowling.
