There was a thrilling cinema episode of real life at the Imperial picture house at Kilmarnock, when McLean, the operator, suddenly found a film burning. He was trapped amid a swirling torrent of flame, and threatened with a shocking death. He tried to put out the flames until he fell unconscious. Meanwhile the public got safely out of the building. Firemen were able to confine their efforts to the operator’s box and the rewinding 100 m. Climbing into the fiery box, a fireman picked up the unconscious man. thrust him through the projection hole, and clambered back himself. Mac Lean’s father was badly burnt in attempting to rescue the operator. Little harm was done to the building.
