THE WATERSIDE TROUBLE. SYDNEY MEN TO RESUME.
SYDNEY, Nov. 17. The overtime strike on the waterfront, so far as it affects Sydney, has ended.
The secretary of the sea transport group of unions announced that advice has been received from the council of the Waterside Workers’ Federation in Melbourne stating that ft has been decided, in deference to the order of Mr. Justice Powers, to resume overtime with the companies employing union labour.
This means that th© ban is lifted from inter-State steamers, but not from oversea steamers. .It is too late for officials to instruct members to work overtime to-night, but it will be resumed on Tuesday. : The overseas companies work independently of the Watersiders’ Federation, members of which are only employed by them when bureau men are short. The difficulty with overseas steamers in other ports- remains unsolved, as Sydney is the only port possessing a burean. The'position regarding the Ferndale and Moreton Bay is unchanged.
