The Times’ Riga correspondent declared that the Russo-American understanding would open out great prospects to the Soviet, for the American cellars ? are .filled with gold. Discussing the possibility of the retirement of Mr Hughes, Tchitcherin said if he does retire it does not necessarily mean tliat Russo-American negotiations will immediately follow, but it does idem! negotiations would be made possible. Referring to the new British Cabinet, Tchitcherin said' that although it contaiiied old enemies such as Earl Gurzon and Mr Winston Churchill, it must not be forgotten it also includes men who really wanted business relations with the Soviet.
