ROTARY MOVEMENT
- A GREAT WORK. The value of the Rotary movement was strikingly iihpressed upon a Neri Zealander who had just returned from the United States. To a Gisborne Times reporter he said that, in the larger cities, rind particularly in New York, these clubs were doing a tremendous work in support of their ..slogan, ‘‘Service Before Self.’ ’ In New York, for example, a big liicvemerit was afoot on the part.of the Roturinns to give boys who to-day have little chaiicc in the world an opportunity to become' useful citizens. On account of the abJiormal growth of juvenile crime, the city had been mapped out, and the principal breeding grounds of vice located. Then steps had been inaugurated to remedy matters, as far as possible—and witli gratifying; results. In this work the help or numerous other social welfare institutions had been inaugurated. As a result, the old-time unsatisfactory system of individual collections for this, that, or the other object had been doiie away with. To-day a citizen Was budgeted for a certain amount annually, and on payment he received a token, which freed him frorii casual solicitations.
