A test of the community lighting system, the installation of which has just been completed by the Hawera County Electric Co., was made this afternoon, and everything was found to be in thorough working order. The display of lights suggested the success of the scheme, 'which will be inaugurated on Monday night next. For failing to obey the terms of a maintenance order in respect of his wife Michael Conza, a labourer, of Te Roti, was to-day convicted at the Hawera Magistrate’s Court and sentenced to one month’s imprisonment with hard labour, he to ,be released on the payment of £5, together with any costs attaching to his arrest. Judgment for the .plaintiff with costs against defendant was given at the Hawera Magistrate’s Court to-day in each of the following undefended civil cases: Wm. Hawkins v. Amelia L. M Mcßeth, claim £3 4s; A. Jackson v’ Ripene, £9; Mortlock and Co. v. H C. Hall, £l6 12s 3d; The Perpetual Trustees and Executors’ Association of Australia, Ltd., v. Arthur J. -Skiellerup, £l9 15s; L. Slinger v. Gate, £4 4s 6d; G. W. Taylor v. J. H. Horton, 6s; B. R. Long v. B. Gaxley, £1 10s ■ same v. A. Yarrall, £2; Hallenstein Bros., Ltd., v. M. S.
