(From Our Own Correspondent.) v BOROUGH COUNCIL. A special meeting of the Patea Borough Council was held on Monday evening for tlie purpose of appointing an - assistant to tne Town Clerk. Four: applications for the position were received and Miss Moira Smith was the successful applicant. >; Before closing the meeting the Mayor stated that the position of the water supply was not too satisfactory: the bore was only making about 1600 gallons an nour, and there was a great waste going on somewhere. He did noL like doing anything to interfere with the supply of water from the gardens, but it was imperative that some restriction was placed on the use xx. hose. The engineer suggested that the use of the hose be restricted to half an hour each day, between the hours of 6.30 and 7 p.m., and he would move in that direction. Cr Peacock seconded the motion, which was carried unanimously. At the completion of the council’s business a special meeting of the Cemetery Board was held - for the purpose «of dealing with tenders for the purchase .of about 23 cords of pine wood. It was resolved to accept the tender of Mr P. Locker, at 17s per cord, and the successful tenderer, was allowed three weeks in which to remove the wood from the cemetery.
