Talboys has resigned his position of engineer and manager of the Wanganui tramways and electrical department in order to enter business on his own account. There passed away at Marion on Sunday Sergt.-Major Thos. McMillan, in his 88th year. Deceased was born in Balmy, County Down, Ireland, and joined the 18th Royal Irish Regiment, to which he was attached for 21 yeare, and then followed two yeans’ service with the New Zealand Defence Forces. He was one of the guard of honour at Queen Victoria's wedding, and gave a great deal of service in Maori war in the Waikato,. Auckland, and Wanganui; in later years ■ acting as drill instructor in Wellington and Wanganui. On retiring from the Der fece Force deceased took tup farming in the Wiairarapa.
