TURF SENSATION

(Received Nov. 10, 1.45 p.m.) v ; . . SYDNEY, Nov. 10. A sensation has been caused in racing circles owing to the hurdler Parvenu (owned by Cp.lin'Stephen, chairmap of the Australian Jockey Club) having been doped to prevent his winning a race. >
Rarvenu won in hollow fashion at the last start three weeks ago. Although raided in weight he was regarded ' as.,a.-, certainty for Saturday’s race, and was heavily backed by the public and punters. The horse failed to get ipto the running until the end, and' then gained a very' bad third, mainly owing to mistaken jumps by the horses ahead. On return to his stall his trainer noticed that the horse was behaving strangely and had him examined by a veterinary surgeon, who declared that the animal had been doped with belladonna', which would impair his sight and prevent sure jumping. For an unscruuplous person slip into the horse box and insert a hypodermic injection of the dope would be but the work of a moment. The police are investigating.
