COMMITTEE MEETING. FUTURITY STAKES REGULATIONS. Tlie executive committee of the Kaponga Jersey Cattle Club met at Kaponga on Friday evening. Mr. D. P. F. Malone (president) occupied the chair, others present being: Messrs M. W. Priest (lion, secretary), S. J. Hollard, H. T. Mellow, and Geo. Cowling. An apology for absence was received from Mr. W. A. Guy. ANNUAL SALE. It was decided to hold the club’s annual female jersey sale on Tuesday, May 26, 1920. TESTING FEES ON TRANSFER. The secretary of the Taranaki Provincial jersey Council (Mr. A. J. Barr) forwarded copy of a letter received from-Mr. W. M. Singleton, director of the dairy division, with reference to testing fees in C.O.R. cows in the case of change of ownership during the testing period. The letter pointed out that the only case in which a cow is charged for is where a cow goes from a herd which is continuing testing to a nontesting breeder. In this case the rule as to what fees should be charged was not definite, depending upon the peculiar circumstances, and therefore the Department did not make provision for the case in their general rules. Generally'speaking, however, if a cow for which three guinea's had been paid was transferred to a non-testing breeder before not more than three tests had been made, the purchaser was asked to pay a further seven guineas in completion of. the ten guineas testing fee. For every visit less than seven required the Department usually asked one guinea per visit. The letter further explained that one ten guineas fee was collected from each testing breeder per season. The fact that the cow which was sold might be the one for which ten guineas had been paid did not alter the case, fees being classed according to farms rather than individual cows. " Therefore, if a breeder had two" cows on test, for uhich he paid thirteen guineas, apd chanced to sell the one which calved first (and therefore for which ten guineas had been paid), a purchaser who had not already cows on test would still be asked to pay fees according to the explanation given above. —Tabled.
