_As a result of being thrown from a bicycle which both, men were riding, two young men were injured in New Plymouth last night, one of them seriously. The young men involved in the accident were Ronald Davies, aged 18 years, apprentice jockey in tlie eranloy of Mr. W. Mantell, and Malcolm Raker, jockey, aged 20 years, also employed by Mr. Mantell. About 7.30 the two young men left Westown (the News reports). One was oh the seat and the other sitting on the cross-bar. In their descent of lift. Edgecombe Street the speed increased considerably, and the pair were un-* able to negotiate the corner into Devon Street. They continued their career down a. very :steep portion of Mt. Edcecombe Street where the street falls away rapidly to a stream, and both youn? men were heavily thrown when they reached Aubrey Street. Medical assistance wa,s obtained, when it was found '.bat Davies was in a fairly serious condition, and he was taken to the hospital with the base of his skull fractured. Baker, who had sustained a severe shaking, small concussion and other minor injuries, returned to his home. Inquiries made at the hospital early this morning revealed the fact that Davies condition bad slightly improved and that he had- regained consciousness. Davies is a son of Mr. W. Davies, of Eltham. Baker comes from Maste> ton.
