Fascists and tiieir Liberal opponents, notably the Italia Liberia, the political organisation of ex-soldiers, headed by Garibald!, brothers and a number of Italy s leading military officers during the war. tlie Fascists broke into the Republican Club and tried to set fire to the building, while the editor and manager of the Liberal Corriere Leila Sera were both maltreated. The former was knocked senseless. The majority of those injured, however were _ Fascists. The public, seeing the ex-soldiers s.ttaoked took their side against the Fascists.
