TENNIS.
THE QUESTION OF GRADE, The question of the A arid B grade competitions, which have been played for some years, has been under consideration by the local clubs this season, and it is understood a feeling exists that the interests of South Taranaki Would best he served by breakirig away from these competitions and arranging a Smith Taranaki series. At a meeting of the Park Club committee the question was discussed, but, although the opinion was expressed, the committee resolved to enter this season in the B grade. It may be pointed out that if the grading were uot in existence, southern chibs Would, ii a South Taranaki competition, have the opportunity of playing against Waverley, arid by meeting such exr oerienced players as Wallace and Dickie, ex-Doniinion champions, the standard of tennis is likely to he imnroved. If the grading is .still maintained. the only teams eligible for the A grade would he New Plymouth and Waverlev. This being the base, it mentis that ho A grade, matches are likely to be played, and the fact of those teams not playing in the coinoetition Would be a distinct loss to tennis in the province. Last year the \ grade competition was not a success. Bv breaking away from the association eroding competitions, and by pr--nn"ing a series of matches among; the cfob*. this would enable the Club to take part in +lm mrrine+itinn. The ouestinn is one that veil worth earlv and serious consideration liv the South Taranaki clubs. ' r ho suforested alteration wo ll hi he a me fillip to the game generally.
