In a statement concerning the Melbourne Cup platings-, the V.R.C. judge said the boy who hoists the numbers over the 'Judge’s box was about to place number thirteen (Brown Rlajah) oh the board when he (the judge) said “Number fourteen” (Spearfelt)! He then turned to liis assistant to discuss the distances between the placed horses. He did hot turn to See that the numbers were hoisted as he had directed. ’ Instancing, the scramble at tlie finish of the Clip,. Lewis, the rider of Stand By, said that when about thirty yards from the post in ah endeavour to usfe his Spurs On his ihdunt he had the spur on his left foot wrenched off, through becoming entangled with the spur of Spearfelt’s rider’s right foot. Spearfelt’s rider’s spur was also torn off. TYE-CORTEEN RACEHORSES. SOLD AT BIG PRICES. HEROIC PASSED IN AT 16,000 GUINEAS. (Received Nov. .6, 2.30 p.m.) . MELBOURNE, Nov. 5. At the dispersal sale of Messrs Tye and Corteen’s racehorses, Heroic , was passed in at 16,000 guineas. Irish Rhythm realised 1000 guineas. Valiant 1750 guineas, Bonaparte 2450 guineas, Pale Light 1800 guineas, Three Kings 1100 guineas, Affirm 900 guineas. _At Tye-Gorteen’s sale of horses King’s Trumpeter realised 350 guineas, Titanic 2700 guineas, Meteoric 1300 guineas, Pinkerton 1200 guineas, Droscella 1150 guineas. Swift 3500 guineas, All Blonde 1000 guineas, Grotesque 750 guineas. Heroic’s reserve was 20,000 guineas. BOOKMAKERS’ BAD LUCK. "SYDNEY, Nov. 5. When the result of the Melbourne Cup was received at Epsom trotting meeting, stating that Brown Rajah was third, bookmakers paid out. Then later, when the report wa6 corrected, they had to pay out again on Spearfelt. Several exhibited notices asking these who had been paid on Brown Rajah to return the money, but were not besieged by ,punters anxious to comply. ROSEDAY FOR CHRISTCHURCH.
