SOME OF THE ASPECTS. LECTURE BY MR, J. S. BARTON. At the Borough Chambers last evening there wa.s a full attendance of members of the Hawera Accountant Students’ Society and leading business men who had gathered to hear M y J. S. Barton speak on “Some- Aspects of Company Law.’’ The lecturer, who is a recognised authority on the subject, dealt very fully with the underlying principles of company legislation, and also gave an historical resume of the various forms of companies. He traced the development of companies created by Royal Charter. Prescription, the Companies and special Acts, and those created under common law. F/xnTuples of various corporations were given, and leading cases dealing with the Companies Acts were cited. Mr. Barton also drew attention to the fact that'all law relating to companies is not contained in the Act, and quoted judgments given in the Appeal .Court in England,, which established definite rules. fie incidentally remarked that he was proud to bo able to mention that the judgments he had cited weer wonderful examples of clarity. common sense, and equity, and fully demonstrated the honesty of purpose with which the judges tackled the problems. In moving a. vote of thanks to Mr. Barton. Mr. L. A. Bone expressed his pleasure at having been present, and also tlto thanks of the gathering for the amount of instructive matter given that evening. He.realised the immense amount of good such lectures were to accountancy students and to the business community ..generally, and trusted that employers would rally round and liberally support the society.

Mr. E. Dixon seconded the vote of thanks and warmly praised the selfdenial raid goodwill of the various leeHirers who had given their services dtiring_the session. Mr. It. B. Burdekin (president’), who was in the chair, drew attention to the fact that there had been a steady increase in the attendances at the lectures. He also announced that Professor Murphy; bf Victoria College, would he speaking in Hawera next week on the subject of “Trusts and Combinations. 5 ’
