All had a. strenuous time owing to the number and quality of the exhibits. All are very pleased with, the quality. The Australian judges considered the exhibits oi a- high standard.
The opening by Lord Jellieoe was witnessed by a great crowd, and high enthusiasm prevailed. The GovernorGeneral (who was welcomed by the mesident of the Royal Show and the Minister of Agriculture), was made a ute member and presented with a handsome mounted and illuminated ii. to S, i ” ls Pe£ted and addressed the b lock House boys, and after viewing the show left for Wellington owum to duties in connection with Pariia" meht. Keen regret and disappointment were expressed because a functions had been 'arranged for to-morrow in his honour.
Many. awards went; to Hawera and I'aranaki breeders and exhibitors. In the qualified hunters, M. B. Doolaghty’s Hazelwood was first in a strong class of twenty-three, including many of the best in the island. In the thoroughbred ®t)a,llion class, W. T. Bailey’s Bisogne was second and the mare Orazone was second in her class. In ponies T. J. Martin's (Inglewood) Sportsman was first in a strong class of fourteen. In saddle horses W. T. Bailey’s, Bysogne was first in a class of ten. The same horse was fourth in the weight harrying hack contest. T. J. Martin’s Sportsman was first in weight carrying cob.
Sheep.—G. V. Pearce was fourth with a Border Leicester ram. In the fat sheep class Yeny Bros. (Waitotara) were first with ‘three fat wethers and ewes.
In royal champions. Mrs. H. Gillies’ well-known horse Captain was first. Tn roVal classes for Clydesdales Moore Hunters.’ Cruncher was second and J. Paul (Stratford) third. Jn the colt, foaled in 1923. Moore Hunters’ Stryvor was first. In mare with foal class, Moore Hunter’s Sesame was first and reserve champion, Lingerie was third. in the filly Rudaiheh was second. in the filly, since 1923, Moore Hunter’s Morgiana Was first in a big strong class. In cnttlo (Shorthorns), Moore Hunter’s Burnside Kellcrby was third. In a keen competition for Hereford,s Jas. McKenzie (Masterton) won first and champion bull and the breeders’ cup, and G. I', Moore (Tvai fwi) won tiie champion cow and also first and second in heifer classes (since 1921). first and third heifer (since 1923), and first and second in pen of two heifers. In Milking Shorthorns, .T. C. Wright fMatapu) was first with cow in milk. Tn Bed Polls, B; W. Harvey (Waverley) was second with hull (since 1921), third with hull (since 1922), first with cow in milk and cow dry and in calf, and heifer since 1922. Tn the Ayrshires section Fred Mills (Tokaora) won the Slack’s handsome cup for bull and three females, first for bull (since 1921), first, for cow (since 1921). and third for heifer (since 1922), first and second heifer (since 1923). first for two heifers. In the Friesian class the Wilder Remembrance Trophv went to the Centr'ai Development Farm: also for the champion bull. Thomas Perry (Mangat.nki) was third with a heifer since 1922.
