The first toll-gate to- be abolished is the Waipuku toll-gate, which will give a clear road from Wellington to New Plymouth and. Auckland. When the main highways were recently declared by Order-in-Council certain roads, or sections of roads, wer© not included as they involved tollgates, the abolition of which has been the subject of several conferences between members of the Main Highways Board and coainty councils in Taranaki. The section declared is within the Inglewood County, which was previously omitted on account of the existence of the Waipuku toll gate. The condition of the declaration is that the Stratford County Council abolish the toll gate.
