Further evidence that better times are approaching in Lancashire is shown by the decision of the section of the cotton trade dealing with America to increase the working week from 26£ to 32 hours. They are expected to soon reach 48 hours. A hundred and fifty thousand employees are affected. A year ago 50 to 60 per cent. . of Lancashire’s cotton mills were idle. Now it only amounts to 15 per cent.
