; “DICK TURPIN AND HIS RIDE . TO YORK." GRAND THEATRE TO-NIGHT. The great' film attraction in New Zealand was shown at the Opera House last evening, and will be repeated for the last time in Hawera at the Grand Theatre to-night.' Without doubt the picture will attract • a crowded house. It portrays the thrilling exploits of one of the most romantic figures of the days when highwaymen haunted the roads of Britain —Dick Turpin. The famous highwayman’s ride to York on his immortal Bonny Black Bess is faithfully portrayed. On his way to Castle Weston, near York, to marry his daughter to the Earl of Weston, Ferret Bevis laughed at the fear of highwaymen on the Great North Road, and Avaged fifty guineas that not even the famous Dick Turpin could, rob him. Turpin held up the coach, robbed the braggart and fell in loa’C with Esther the daughter. He also aided Luke, the real Earl to secure his inheritance. Esther feared the new earl, and when her father resolved that she should marry Luke, Esther AA r rote to the Falstaff Inn, near London, appealing to Diek Turpin to come to her assistance. A Boav Street Runner delivered the message to Turpin, who had been captured at the Falstaff. He called on Black* Bess to rescue him. Then he rode aivav to York, through hamlet and toivn, o’er hill and moor— Avitb the runners riding hard, behind — till Black Bess died of a broken heart. Too late to prevent the marriage, but in time to kill the blackguard earl and set Esther free to marry the man she loved. OPERA HOUSE, HAWERA. TO-NIGHT (TUESDAY). . “ VAUDEVILLE DE LUXE. ” Hawera theatregoers are promised a unique entertainment this evening, when Ringland’s vaudeville and circus de luxe will open in the Opera House. Judging by the newspaper reports from other tOAvns, the company comprises the finest combination of talent that has ever toured NeAV Zealand. Every member of the company is already under contract at the expiration of the present tour in April next. Valentine, ventriloquist, and Herbert Williams conjurer and sketch artist, to “MusicHalls, Ltd.” of London, Avhile the Donizetti Troupe, Lyndo and. Lyndo, and the Juggling Waldens proceed to the East, for a three years’ tour of China and Japan; Captain Cuttle and his c.leA T er canines going to America. Taken right through the company is a particularly versatile one, and each turn a specialty in its own particular line. Vaudeville patrons would be well advised to take advantage of the opportunity of seeing the above combination. The company recently appeared at Wanganui, and the press described the performance during the two nights’ season there in glowing terms. The company has met Avith a great reception eA r erywhere, and its chief appeal is novelty. The Hawera season is for two nights. The box plan is at Mrs Cook’s, Everybody’s Sweet Store. Patrons are advised to book early.
