PATEA HARBOUR BOARD.
MR GRAINGER’S RESIGNATION; SUCCESSOR SUGGESTED. At the monthly meeting of the Patea Harbour Board yesterday the resignation of Mr F. W. Grainger wae receiv- \ ed with regret, and it was decided to ‘ apply, to tne Minister of Marine* for permission to appoint Mr A. H. Hodge, recently of the South Island, to the vacancy. It was stated that Mr Hodge would represent the Patea borough and the South Taranaki Shipping, Co. The harbourmaster (Captain W. Tinney) reported that the channel over the bar was straight, with about 15ft on the bar and about 12ft betw’een the walls at high water soring tide. At neap tide there was about 12ft on the bar and Bft 6in between the walls. There had been 14 arrivals and 13 departures since his last report, and six vessels had gone out on the lights. The walls were keeping in good order, hut sand was being washed away from under the steel shed. ' The dredgemaster (Mr A. Mercer) reported that the Inspector of Machinery had visited the dredge, and had ordered sundry repairs, which had now been effected. Both the reports were adopted.
