Scholz and Watson, were interested, but Nurmi could not give ; definite answer. it was reluctantly decided to abandon the idea of securing visiting athletes for this season. ESCAPED PRISONERS SENTENCED. TAUMARUNUJ, Nov. 3. George Ruddell Dale and George Napier Jorgenson YVigg, the two prisoners who escaped at Waimarino last week, appeared in court to-day. Dale was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment and Wigg to two years, the. sentence to be cumulative with the present terms. LAUNCH TRAGEDY. AUCKLAND, Nov. 3. On a launch trip to Paratu, Coromandel, on Sunday, a son of G. D. Hansford, of the firm Hansford and Mills, contractors, Wellington, was drowned when a, dinghy containing four people, including the deceased, upset in a heavy -sea. Three others had a narrow’ escape from death.
