DE VALERA IN PRISON.
ORDER DISREGARDED. (by TELEGRAPH—PRESS /ASSOCIATION. LONDON Nov. 1. The republican .leader, De Valera, was at Belfast sentenced to one month’s imprisonment in the second division for entering North Ireland in contravention of the Government's order. The prosecutor said that the order of the Home Secretary under the Civil Authorities’ Powers Act was served on De Valera on October 25 at Adavoyle railway station, prohibiting him entering thfe polling areas of North Ireland, but De Valera was seen the following evening and arrested. De Valera declined to plead, not recognising the authority of the court, which he declared was the creature of a foreign power, and therefore was not sanctioned by the Irish people. The resident magistrate said he was unable to allow a political speech, which was a mere cloak for contempt of court.
