VARIETY OF DIALECTS.

ENGLISH CRICKETERS AT PERTH. - XT , . LONDON, Oct. 21. Nothing more cordial could be imagined than the luncheon at the Perth grounds on Friday week when both teams were guests of the association, on behalf of which, Mr. Gardiner, the president, extended a welcome to the ground to the Englishmen. Cricket was practically taboo, the chairman remarking on the great benefit of the rain to the country, and the need for filling the empty spaces if we were to keep our land. Messrs. Gilligan and Toone responded formally, and then the fun began, as every member of the team was called on, and in most cases it was merely a matter of endorsing thanks for the good time provided by the people of Perth. The chief feature of the gathering was the variety of dialects and th© absence of frill. While many of the Englishmen do not claim any qualifications as orators, there are others, beyond Messrs Gilligan and Douglas, who can express themselves concisely Both Sutcliffe and Sandham are sneakers well above the ordinary, and their enunciation is excellent.
