SINGAPORE POLICY.
AN EAGER MEMBER. (By Telegraph—Special to Star.) WELLINGTON, Oct. 31. Legislators who have watched the English election progress reports with keen interest were amused to-day when Mr Nash (Palmerston North) asked .the Prime Minister whether, in view of the alteration in the situation in the Old Country, the New Zealand Government was prepared, to urge the British Government to proceed with the construction of the Singapore base. Hon. A. T. Ngata: Tr lere is no new Government yet. Mr Massey: I am afraid the hon. member is too early. (Laughter). Like myself, he is taking notice of the. outlook. I don’t want to entrench on the parliamentary questions of any country in the Empire, but the member knows the opinion held by the Government a year ago in regard to the Singapore base, and I can say the Government is of the same opinion still. He can draw his own opinion from that. (Laughter.)
