A DRINK OF POISON.
ACTRESS MAKES MISTAKE. MAUD FANE IN REAL. DRAMA. LONDON, Oct. 11. A glass of water saved the life of Miss Aland Fane, the Australian musical comedy actress, after ishe had drunk some cresoline in mistake for a cough medicine, at her Kensington hat. She arrived home from the theatre at midnight, put out the light, picked up her supposed medicine at the bedside, and swallowed some. She screamed in agony and with a fearful burning in her throat rushed out of the bedroom and drank a large quantity of water. Then, calling to her children’s nurse, “I’ve . swallowed poisfm; get a doctor quickly!” she collapsed. Mi ss Fane did not regain consciousness for twelve hours. Specialists were called in, and they -were amazed at the rapidity of her recovery, in view of the serious injury to her mouth and throat. She will resume her part at the Hippodrome in a week. Miss Fane is negotiating with Sir George Tallis, of J. G. Williamson, Ltd., regarding a visit to Australia in January.
