Advices from Port Soudan state that an attempt by tho leading residents of Jeddah and Mecca to arrange terms with the Wahabis failed. A representative Wahabi in Mecca states that peace is impossible while Ali remains .on the throne. This appears an insurmountable obstacle. Jeddah has not been placed in a state of defence, but military preparations are being made to resist a threatened attack. Reinforcements are coming to Jeddah from Akaba. Many of the population are leaving.
