ACCOUNTANT’S LAPSE.
EARLIER CRIMES RECALLED. (BY TELEGRAPH—PRESB ASSOCIATION. AUCKLAND. Oct. 29. At the Police Court to-day William Richard Smee,' aged 42, pleaded guilty to four charges of theft, involving a total sum of £147 2s 6d. It was stated that accused admitted that while employed as an accountant lie converted some of the money to his own use. At his second place of employment he followed the same procedure. Accused’s record showed a sentence of 15 months in London for theft of £BOOO, and in 1923 a sentence in New Zealand for theft of £7OO. Accused was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment on each of the first two charges, the terms to be consecutive, and he was also admitted to probation for five years.
