The oft-repeated objection that \New Zealand conld not offer good enough hotel accomodation to attract highclass tourist traffic was discounted by opinions expressed at the Auckland Tourist League’s Conference on Wednesday. Several delegates closely in touch with tourist traffic agreed that complaints were very few. Mr. Robert Angus, manager of Thomas Cook, Ltd.. Auckland, said that 95 per cent, of tourists with whom he had to do left New Zealand satisfied with the accommodation. The minority consisted only of wealthy Americans used to superlative comforts. As the traffic developed, accommodation would expand to meet the demand. Mr. Graham, of Wairakei, said that many Americans welcomed the unfamiliar conditions in New Zealand as a new experience. He himself was shaving in a hot swimming bath at Wairakei when an American espied him (reports the N.Z Herald). The latter remarked: “Well, I’ve travelled all round the world, but had to come to New Zealand to see a man standing in his own shaving water.”
