RIFLE SHOOTING.

TARANAKI CADET CHAMPIONSHIP. AVON BY BARTON. The No. 8 Regimental (Taranaki) District Rifle Meeting was commenced at the rifle range, New Plymouth, on Saturday last. Saturday was set aside for cadets shooting and Monday for territorials. One hundred and five cadets competed, the champion cadet shot of Taranaki being Cadet H. J. Barton, of No. 15 Coy. (Town) Cadets. Cadets Wills, Davies, Hammond, Hawkins and Leach also put up very creditable scores. The teams’ match was won by Stratford High School, but through a misunderstanding the Hawera Cadet team left the range early to be sure of catching their train, and accordingly missed the final teams’ match. The Hawera team was well ahead of the New Plymouth High and Technical School and other town teams. The results are as follows: Match No. 9. —Q.M.S. B. AV. Yeates, 112 Coy., 39, £1 10s; Cadet A. E.
