“FAITHFUL MEMORY.”
BELGIAN CROWN PRINCE. The Duke of Brabant, Belgian Crown Prince, recently visited Havre in order to take part in the memorial celebrations of the anniversary of ’ the war, and to pay his tribute to the city, which during the war years harboured the-exilged Belgian Government. A tablet commemorating the time during which King Albert’s councillors governed Belgium from Havre, affixed to the hotel in which the Belgian Ministers met, was inaugurated by the Prince. It bears the following “The Government of noble Belgium, expelled from its country by force after it had risen against the invader in defence of the right outraged by Germany, found asylum in this place, where it remained from October 13, 1914, to November 18, 1918.” King Albert has addressed to M. Doumergue, the President of France, a telegram assuring him of the faithful memory which Belgium keeps of the hospitality extended by France “at a date which recalls most keenly sufferings and struggles endured together.” The Duke of Brabant laid a wreath upon the tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the Arc de Triomnhe, Paris.
