WAVERLEY RACING CLUB.

SUCCESSFUL JUBILEE. MEETING. NUKUMAI WINS GOLD CUP. BIG FIELDS. (Special to Star.) The Waverley Racing Club was favoured with fine weather for its Jubilee meeting yesterday. A fresh breeze blew down the straight against the horses, and the track being slightly on the soft side did not make for fast times. Good fields were the order of the day, but the speculators did not have things their own wav, only two favourites in. Shut- Eye and Bonogne being successful. The hahdicapper, Mr. H. Coyle, did his work well, and in most cases splendid finishes resulted. The starter, Mi 1 . A. Morse, as a rule got his fields away in good style, but the Cup race wa.s marred by the poor start, and Muraahi especially lost several lengths Nukumai won the Jubilee Gold Oup, and Mrs. Newland made the presentation to Mr. S. Davidson, the owner of the winner. In a- speech before the presentation, Mr. J. R.. Corrigan, M.H.R., congratulated the club’s officials on the excellent arrangements made and also referred to the founders of the club, of whom Messrs. Kennedy, Wilson, Dobson and Bremer were still on the active list. Mr. Corrigan also stated that the club had worked under great difficulties at times, but had won through, until now they bad one of the best country meetings in New Zealand. Two enquiries were held during the day, and Myles, rider of Pouri Hoiho in the Morton Maiden Race, was cautioned, while Anderson, rider of Carnbee in the Wilson Hack Welter Stakes,' was sent down for one month for crossing. Camp Arm broke his stifle in the first race and had to be destroyed. B. Tito, his rider, was uninjured. The attendance, thoughnot so large as last year, was of poodlv proportions. Shut Eye showed out at the start, with Enthuse and Taitaiata next. The former further increased his lead at the bend, where Taitaiata and Hallowmoon had moved up. Coming into the straight Shut Eye had a lead of three lengths with Taitaiata still lying second. Up the straight Shut Elye was going easily in front and won by about four lengths from Close Fire, with Mary Ann a neck away third. Taitaiata was fourth. Time. 1.16 2-5. From a good start Lord Formby led from Rajput and Velociform. Going out of the straight Craigowan took the lead from Gold Peak. Going round the hack Velociform hit the hurdle, and dropped hack. Running to the bend Craigowan still led from Gold Peak, with Velociform making up lost ground. Coming into the straight Gold Peak was in front, and held his. advantage to win by about 12 lengths from the favourite, with Rajput third. Time, 2,54. From a straggling start Arsene Lupin was first out, followed by Siaosi and Merry Ann, All Wind being badly left: Turning to the bend Siaosi led from Bonogne, Arsene Lupin and Carnbee. Coming to the straight Carnbee led from Bonogne, Siaosi and Opa, with Arsene Lupin fifth. Rounding, the bend into the straight the same order continued, while Empyrean made a run on the rails. Shining Armour and Glengariff were hunched. Coming to. the straight, Shining Armour was in the lead from Mountain Ore and Bonifant. Straightened up for home. Spa nut in a great run, hut was beaten by half a.length by Shining Armour, while Glengariff put- in a splendid run, hut could not reach the leaders in time, and filled third place.:■ Time, 1.44 3-5. A good start was effected, and Lady Hamua was first to show out, foliowe‘d by Bonideer, Troilus, Muria, Captain Gazeley and Lupass. Round the bend Luarne went to the front, followed by Lady Hamua and Troilus. At the bend The Lamb became prominent. Coming into the straight Luarne and Lady Hamua dropped hack, and The Lamb threaded his way through to the lead, followed by Troilus. The former sustained his run to win by a length from Troilus, with Siaosi half a length away third. Muria was close up fourth. Time, 1.4 2-5.
