A Sydney cable message reports the death of Mr. John Augustus Rada, a Maori War Veteran, at the age of 88. The death is reported from Dunedin of Mr. G. Buchanan, who Avas printer of the Dunedin Star for forty-nine years. Deceased was born in Dunedin in October, 1851. Mr. H. E. Jphnson, the well-known Friesian breeder of Tokaora, left Hawera by the mail tram this morning to judge at the Carterton show. Mrs. Wright, of Mangatoki, who underwent a serious operation some weeks ago, is doing well and will be able to return home in the course of a weqk or so. Mr. R. Dunn, president of the Taranaki Provincial Executive of the Farmers’ Union, left for Wellington this morning to attend a meeting of the Dominion Executive of the Union. Mrs. Malone, of Riverdale, who has been in the Haivera public hospital for special treatment for a long-standing complaint, left the institution last week and returned home feeling ever so much better. Her numerous friends will be pleased to hear of her speedy recovery. Mrs. Mull ally, of Eltham, who met with a motor accident some time ago, and who has been in the Hawera hospital ei'er since with a fractured collarbone. Avas operated on last Thursday. The doctor, after very careful treatment for six Aveeks previous to her operation, found it necessary to operate. Mrs. Mnllally is reported to be making rapid progress, and it, is expected that she Avill be able to leaA r e the hospital in another three AA'eeks v 'ith the use of the arm fully restored. Her friends will he pleased to hear of her recovery.
