POSITION OF COUNTRY CLUBS. MATTER CF REPRESENTATION. WELLINGTON, Oct. 25. At a meeting of the executive of the New Zealand Country Racing Clubs, called specially to consider proposals from affiliated clubs relative to suggesting changes in the constitution of the New Zealand Racing Conference as affecting the representation of racing clubs at the annual conference held in July of each year, a large number of replies was received from clubs who were resolved to support the proposal of the Woodville Club, with some amendments, limiting the total group representation of district clubs to three, and providing for the representation of suburban clubs outside of the district- clubs in special cases. The basis of the suggested* allocation of representation is on racing days as against stakes or totalisator turnover. Messrs Jewell and Lyon were appointed a sub-committee to present the views of the executive to a special committee of .the Racing Conference. It was resolved to telegraph to the Prime Minister and the leader of the Opposition, expressing appreciation of their action in regard to passing the Gaming Bill . Mr Massey was thanked specially for his effort to honour the promises to the Country Racing Clubs’ Association in. the past. It was further resolved to telegranh the leader of the Labour Party, asking that those associated in opposition might consider the Bill as one of long promise, promoted originally by the association in the interests of country clubs to which the Bill would supply a measure of justice.
