In past years the Waverley Racing Club have always provided an interesting and enjoyable outing at their meeting held in the spring, and on present indications Monday’s meeting will be,.n.o exception. The lot engaged in the Maiden Plate at the Waverley meeting, taken on the whole, are not good, but in. his races Shuteye has shown he possesses pace, and Taitaiata, too, appears to be galloping better this season. Without securing a win Solferange has run very prominently this season, and he can be depended on to again do well in tiny Flying Handicap" at Waverley on Monday. The Lamb has a big weight (10.3) in the Jackson Stakes at Waverley, but with a good start it will he hard to pick one to heat him. It is now stated that Nigger Minstrel _is an unlikely starter at the Wellington meeting, blit will he prepared for the Derby at Riccarton. It is also mentioned that H. G-ray will nde him there. A particularly good lot of horses are engaged in the Brewer HandicaD at the Waverley meeting, and one" has often seen a much inferior field compete for a race of three times the value. . Although he failed to pay a dividend m the Wanganui Guineas, Gaillard did not run a bad race, and it would not come as a surprise should be prove hard to beat at Waverley. Lady Bentinck, too, should show up well. If kept to racing over s*hort Avola would pay her way handsomely, as there is no doubt this daughter of Bisogne has pace, and she may give the three-year-olds trouble at Waverley. , Oil his showing at the Marion meeting it appeared like waste of time trying to make a jumper of Velociform, hut he improved wonderfully up to the Wanganui meeting, and will rim well at Waverley on Monday. When only up about six weeks Siaosi beat a useful field at the Wanganui spring meeting, and . with the advantage of another six weeks’ training should prove callable of running a good race in the Wilson Welter at Waverley. At the minimum weight AH Wind may go better than many imagine.

If we except Muraahi the field for the Waverley Cun are’ an even lot, and, the event bears an open appearance. Trainer Wright has worked such an improveinent in Nukumai that he may prove hard to beat in this event. If ridden a- patient race Bitters, too, will run well.

t Royal Divorce is galloping well at Trentham, and is a much improved horse that may take a high place in the winding list this season. He will bo a runner in the Champion Plate at Trentham on Monday, and is sure to run well. According to that good judge “Pilot.’’ Ballymena was winning very easilv when he broke a leg in the Randwick Flute at the recent A.J.C. meeting. ‘‘Pilot” says but for this mishap David’s chance of winning the £IBOO fitake money was practically nil.
