GIFTS TO RETURNED MEN. BEQUEST WORTH £IOO,OOO. A scheme which is subject to amendment has been prepared by the New South Wales Attorney-General for the allotment of benefits under the will of the late Mr German Verge, a grazier, of Gladstone, Macleav River, who - left from his estate a substantial part, worth about £IOO,OOO, to the returned soldiers and sailors of New South Wales. ( In the draft scheme the AttorneyGeneral asks for authority to appoint three trustees to administer the - fund —one nominated bv himseJf, another nominated by the Federal AttorneyGeneral, and the third to lie selected from a panel of three nominated by the council of the Returned Sailors and Soldiers’ Imperial League. The trustees may be remunerated for their services. In the table, of contemplated benefits, the trustees are empowered to arrange for the return to the State of returned men and their families; and Tor the return to New South Wales of the family of any returned soldier, whether or no.t the man ha alive. Other benefits include; Purchasing or acquiring any form of real or personal property, and vesting it- in a returned man gratuitously, or on terms of repayment—those engaged in farming, dairying, fruit and vegetable growing, grazing, pastoral production, industry, trade, business, handicraft, profession, or art being eligible under this head. Ways in which a returned soldier ma.v be assisted to establish himself either on the land, in a trade, or in a profession. an"e mentioned; while financial help may be given for the education, instruction and training of a- returned man in any form of knowledge or skill.
