PATEA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) MAGISTRATE’S COURT. The monthly sitting of the Magistrate’s Court was held here on Wednesday and presided over by Mr. Barton, S.M. There was very little ] business, most of the cases being either adjourned or otherwise disposed of. In the judgment summons case H. Ware (Palmerston North) v. J. FT. Bowie (Auroa), claim £ls 14s 6d, an order was made for payment forthwith, the order to be suspended so long as the sum of 10s per week is paid, but failure to make any payment . judgment debtor to spend seventeen days in gaol. The following cases were adjourned till next court day: Pa-tea County Council v. Tutenga; R. A. Adams, Ltd. v. C. Adams; M. A. Lawson v. H. Terere; C. F. Pulley v. A. Ireland ; T. J. Carter v. T. Wilkinson; same v. A. J. T. Wills; J. D. Proffit v. C. Rowland. In the case of T. J. Carter v.. H. Terere, judgment debtor was ordered to pay the amount forthwith, in default 8 days in gaol. BOWLING. The Patea Bowling Club opened its green on Wednesday afternoon, arid there was a large number of visitors. Seven full rinks were played and seme very good bowling was' recorded. Mr. A. T. Christensen (president of the club), in opening the green, welcomed the visitors, and expressed the delight of the club at seeing so many visitors present, and hoped that all would -have a very enjoyable afternoon’s play. The president then asked Mr. Deane, one of the oldest members of the club, to throw the “jack,” and then declared the green open. A. splendid afternoon’s play was enjoyed, and at the close Mr. Adamson (Rawer a) returned thanks on behalf of the visitors for the very enjoyable afternoon’s sport, and also thanked the ladies, for the very nice afternoon tea provided. GENERAL, J am very pleased to- be able to report that Mr. Stevens, accountant at the local branch of the Bank of New South Wales, who- met with a serious motor cycle accident on Sunday • last, is making a splendid recovery, and- hopes isoon to be back at his place ; of business. The local amateurs are staging the farce comedy “Jane” to-night. The ; proceeds are to go in aid of the Patea : Coursing Club. The named character i was to have been taken - by Miss Luxton, but, unfortunately, this young > lady is laid aside with the “flu,” and it was thought that it would be neces- ; sary to postpone the performance. The management, however, considered the l position, and as the notice to postpone would be so short it was decided to ' keep, to the date, and through the very sportsmanlike action of Mrs. Spending, of Wanganui, who has very kindly ' stepped in at a minute’s notice to fill the principal role.
