BY-LAWS BROKEN.
OFFENDERS FINED. A number of offenders against the borough by-laws were dealt with at the Hawera Magistrate’s Court yesterday, fines being imposed in each of the charges heard. For failing to take the correct side of the road when passing another vehicle John F. Reid, who forwarded a writen plea of guilty, was fined £1 and 7s court costs. A motor cyclist named Percy H. Meuli, who cut the corner in front of the White Hart Hotel on a recent date, was reminded of the necessity for observing the borough by-laws by the infliction of a fine of 30s and 7s court costs. Because he had successfully dodged three years’ drill, Wm. Poolev, who had failed to register under the Defence Act, was fined £1 and 7s court costs. As the result of his taking the risk of riding his bicycle in Glover road without a light Rangi Aka was fined £1 _ ss, 7s court costs, and 5s translation fee. John F. McCabe, who was charged with driving without a rear light what was described by the Borough Inspector as “an ancient sort of a lorry,” was fined 12s 6d and 7s court costs.
