SWIMMING CLUB.
A SUCCESSFUL YEAR. CREDIT BALANCE. WORK OF THE FUTTJEE. There was .“in attendance of twentyfive members at the annual meeting of the Hawera Amateur Swimming Club presided over last night by Mr W. A. Spragg. ANNUAL REPORT. The annual report drew attention to the excellent credit balance of £39 5s 9cl, which Avas most gratifying when ii was remembered that the club had commenced the season with a credit balance of only £1 Os 4d. The object of the club, however, was not to build up a large credit balance, but nevertheless such a balance was handy in the event of unsuccessful carnivals. During the season five carnivals were held, all of which were well attended, and judging by the enthusiasm displayed it was evident that good racing and well managed meetings went a long way towards holding the public interest. The club had been represented at the New Zealand championship meeting at Wanganui by Miss P. 'Brant and Mr B. Eawson, the latter being successful in gaining third place in the, 100 yards intermediate breaststroke championship. New that they were affiliated to the recently formed Taranaki centre, with headquarters at New Plymouth, the elub should be in a better position to receive attention from the Ngav Zealand Amateur Swimming Association. Most likely in the near future the Taranaki centre would be allotted a New Zealand championship meeting. They regretted the loss of the services of their secretary, Mr E. B. IT. Nieholls, who had proved an energetic officer. Thanks were due to the donors of trophies, those who had assisted at carnivals, the Press, and the Borough Council. —Adopted. ELECTION OF OFFICESS. The matter of the secretary’s honorarium wa s left in the hands of the incoming committee. It was decided that, in the interests of the efficient working of the committee the number of 'vice-presidents should be reduced to two, this to take effect next year. Eulogistic reference to the work done for the club by Air A. Kean, who re-cently-left the district, was made by Messrs Poison and C'laringbold. On the motion of Wr Walkley, it was decided to place on record the. • good services of last year ’s committee. Messrs Spragg and Skjellerup expressed the opinion that the committee should make provision on the' carnival programmes for races for boys of from 14 to 17 years. At present suc-h boys were to a old to compete with tiie. juniors and too vonng to compete with the men. w It was decided to write to the Borough Council urging favourable consideration of an application made by a deputation on Alondav night last for the free. use. of the baths for school •children during certain hours. Air Walkley moved that it; be a recommendation to the incoming commit" tee to interview the ’Borough 'Council with a view to obtaining an improvement in the morning hours at the baths. He suggested that mixed bathing should be "allowed, everv morning from 6 o’clock to 9.30 o’clock. The motion Avas carried.
