TARANAKI EDUCATION BOARD.

OHDINABY MEETING. At the ordinary meeting on Monday the following miscellaneous matters were brought up and received attention:'— A report was presented by the secretary (Mr. Id. W. Insull) on the matter of establishing manual classes at Opnnake, showing that there were 41 pupils available, and the cost involved in bringing them from the surrounding schools to Op intake.—lt was decided that Opunake was a suitable centre for the establishment of such classes, and that application he made for a grant of £543 for the erection of a suitable building; and £205 15s for the necessary equipment.

The board authorised the supply of a small gate for a horse paddock at the Mokoia school, and decided that if a 10ft gate was desired the committee must find the difference in the cost. An application by the Mokoia committee for permission to let a portion of the school grounds was referred to Mr. Lees to report upon. With regard to the proposal for the establishment of a dairy laboratory in Taranaki a committee, consistinrr of Messrs. S. G. Smith and P. j 7 H. White, was appointed to make the necessary arrangements and details for the use of the old Technical School building at Hawera for the purpose. It was decided to make application for grants for the purpose of woodwork' eqninment for the Eitliam and Hawera. schools.

The question of horse accommodation at' the Normanby school was referred •to Messrs. Lees and Eaves, with power to act. A report was submitted by Messrs. Dempsey and Deare on the position in connection with a reserve at Manaia. The original lessee had passed on the lease to other people, and there was rent unpaid on the section amounting to £7 ur> to February next. It was stated that drainage from the hote 1 was being carried on to the section to such an extent as to raise complaints from residents.

Tt was decided to apply to the original lessee for the. rent due, and tr call the Health Inspector’s attention to the drainage nuisance.
