AN UNFORTUNATE WOMAN.
STRUGGLE WITH FIVE CHILDREN. EJECTMENT FROM HOUSE. A problem in poverty Avas placed before Mr H. A. Young, S.M., for solution at the Magistrate’s Court, Hamilton, on Friday, Avhen a married woman with five young children appeared to show reason why an ejectment order should not be made against her. She stated that her husband was living in Auckland, and Avas sending her only 10s a week for each child and iic-tliing for, herself. It Avas impossible to make ends meet on the Aveekly payment of £2 10s, and she thought that her husband should pay more. Mr F. W. Sullivan, who. appeared for the landlord, said that nothing but sympathy could be felt for the unfortunate woman, and his client was not therefore pressing his claim for arrears of rent. However, the owner himself was not in very good circumstances, and as he was compelled to go to the expense of putting in the seAverage, he was forced to take some steps that would ensure him obtaining some revenue from the place. His client could not afford To act the Charitable Aid Board towards the woman. His Worship told her that she should proceed against her husband for an increased alloAvance for the landlord could not he made to suffer in the manner he was doing.
