TARANAKI RUGBY UNION.
COMAIITTEE MEETING. Th© Alanagement Committee of -the Taranaki Rugby Union met at Stratford last evening. There w’ere present: Alessrs J. AlcLeod /(chairman), W. B. Fearon (president), J. Garcia, E. AL Whyte, W. A. Guy, J. Goodwin, B. Saunders, A. F. Nielson, E. H. Young, and S. E. Neilson (secretary). Apologies for absence were received from* Alessrs A. 0. Casey, L. J. Furrie and A. J. Rapps. CLUB GAAIES FINANCE. The following statement of receipts from club gates and expenses inclined, showing comparison of the 1923 and 1924 seasons, was tabled, the figures for the former year being shown in parentheses: Gross gates, £1332 9s (£1367 6s 3d); expenses—-gatekeepers, £B4 16s 6d (£59 7s 6d); ground rents, £IBO 19s Id (£l9l 15s sd); referees’, expenses, £26 3s 6d (£54 4s); advertising, £133 12s (£l4O 6s 3d). Total sums repaid to clubs were shown as £631 Os od (£3lO 5s Id), the balance to the union being £275 17s 6d (£6ll 8s). , The individual amounts -paid to the various clubs (1923 figures being given in parentheses) were as follow: Star, £BB 12s (£2O 17s 6d); Tukapa, £76 11s 6d (£l6 5s 9d); Hawera, £65 5s 8d (£2l 7s); Stratford, £63 ,4s 8d (£29 7a 6d); Inglewood, £57 2s 2d (£3l 6s 4d): Old Boys, £55 6s 8d (£lB 7s); Okaiawa, £42 11s 4d (£ls 18s. 3d) ? Clifton; £42 3s 3d (£l7 8s sd); Eltham, £4O 12s lid (£23 12s 2d); Kaponga, £33 6s lod (£ll 14s 2d); Opunake, £23 15s lid (£39 ss); Waimate, £22 11s 7d (£l3 8s); Patea, £l9 15s lid (£29 3s): Okato, nil (£22 ss). HIGH SCHOOL MATCHES. A statement was presented showing that the union had received a revenue of approximately . a little under £ls per match from the games - contested under the union’s jurisdiction by the New Plymouth High School during the season. Th© chairman remarked that the figures would serve to disabuse the pub ic of any misconception which might, possibly be entertained concern.mg the large revenue the union wa9 supposed to be' receiving from ■ thes© games. - The summary disclosed the following credits: Te Aute game, £33 13s 2d: \v anganui Technical College, £SO 10s 4d; Auckland Grammar, £95 3s 6d. The Alount Albert Grammar match (expenses incomplete) resulted in a debit of approximately £6 19s 3d. which, together with grants of £65 and £SO respectively to the New Plvmonth High School and the Primary Schools’ Union, disclosed a net credit from the four games of £57 7s 9d. A footnote explained that though all accounts had not been finally settled it was not likely that the figures would be disturbed to any extent. RULES. A draft copy of the proposed rules of the union as prepared by a subcommittee consisting of the ‘chairman and Alessrs Young and Whyte was discussed and revised, the sub-commit-tee being authorised to embody amendments in accordance with the revision and have copies supplied to the various clubs, the rules to be presented for consideration at the next annual meet-, ing. GENERAL. A letter was received from the Ratana Alaramatanga Football Club (Ra-. tana’s pa, Wanganui) advising that their club proposed- making a tour during th© months of October and Novemf her, and asking if it would be possible to arrange for a game under- the union’s jurisdiction at Hawera. V It was decided to reply that as the season had closed the union would be unable to arrange for the match. The secretary of the- Eltham School Committee wrote intimating that in order to cover the expense of laying out the new school playing area, which would include two football grounds, it was anticipated that it would be necessary to raise approximately £6OO, and asking if the union could see its way to assist with a donation. The chairman expressed regret that the union was unable to accede to the request, and after discussion the secretary was directed to reply accordingly. An invitation to the president and secretary to be present at the forthcoming spring show was received from the Egmont Agricultural and Pastoral Association. The Auckland Rugby Football Union wrote expressing appreciation of the hospitality extended to their representatives on the occasion of their visit to New Plymouth. The manager had stated that his team had been given a “right, royal time,” and th© union was looking forward to returning the compliment. An appreciation of th© manner in wbjr*h thejr team had been entertained when visiting Taranaki was also received from the Auckland Grammar School.
