HAWERA MEN’S CLUB. CLOSING DAY. Despite the rather unfavourable weather conditions the closing day for the season was held on Saturday. There was a fair attendance of members, friends, and visiting golfers, and aii interesting afternoon’s play resulted. Mixed foursomes were played, and the result of the competition was that Mr. and Mr®. Bright returned the best card. Afternoon tea having been enjoyed, the formal closing ceremony was performed’by the presidept (Mr. E. C. Fletcher). In a very happily Worded speech lie said he hoped that all had enjoyed tile afternoon, and expressed cordial appreciation of the presence of members of other clubs. He referred to tfie very enjoyable and satisfactory season just concluded, and, to their anticipations of another gopd %eason next year, apd acknowledged very cordially the valuable assistance given at alt times to the affairs of the club by the members of the ladies’ club.. He then ''asked Mrs. Bright, in the unavoidable absence, of Mrs. S. C. Tonks’. to present the prizes won during tii? season.. The list was as follows: Club champion, W. O’Callaghan; junior champion, C. Most: senior medal, W. Chalmers; four-ball bogey, Beechey and Vinnicombe; junior bogey (captain’s trophy), N. .Caplen; junior medal (O’Gallaghan’s trophy), H. Lane; senior four-ball bogey (vicepresident’s trophy), ’' Chalmers and 'age; junior medal (captain’s trophy> N. Caplen ; medals ' (patrons’ trophies), senior L. Quin, junior R. Syine; bogey (Quin’s trophy), W. Little; junior bogey, R. Syme; senior bogey (Beechey’s trophy), T. J.' Salmon; four-ball (senior and junior), L. Quin and Reid; most improved players, junior L. M. Jobson, beginner S. SStudholme (president’s trophies). It is worthy of note that this year marked the tenth occasion on which O’Callaghan has annexed the senior championship, The handsome. cup was presented ,to the club by Mr. G, H. Ryan during his term as president, The gathering on Saturday wa.s most successful and fitly celebrated the end of a capital season. BENEFIT TOURNAMENT. The New Plymouth Golf Club is to hold ,a benefit tournament ait the Waiwakaiho links on . Labour Day in aid of the North Elgin o.nt Mountain House fpnd. Players from all other clubs iu Taranaki tare invtied toi participate. Play will commence at 8.30 a.ml, the mpming being devoted, to a four-hall bogie match, ladies to be partnered by men. In the afternoon there will be a medal handicap match •of 15 holes (excluding the 12th, 13 th and 14th holes). The entry fee for each match will be Is 6d. . There will also be. putting, approaching and driving competitions.
