SWIMMING.
Wednesday afternoon next sees the commencement of the swimming season, when the public baths, in Albion Street, will he opened. The Council
has again appointed Mr Dowdle as tl custodian, and has also done some h needy improvements. A large new S( changing shed has been' built for the convenience of the young folk, also a a new concrete block and steps under the high springboards 4ft high. The Q baths have been thoroughly cleaned .. and lined. 1 Several prominent swimmers, have left the district, but others have arrived to take their places. Included P in these is Mr Bates, * the new school- h master, who was for seven years secre- ttary of the Manawatu Centre. A new o era will commence with the public c school. For many years past the spe- u cial hours for the school have only been c used very little, but Mr Bates is going ]j to take advantage of the hours and p also commence school sports for championships. No cups are at present I'cld by the club for boys and girls in primary schools, but one leading business man has promised to give a challenge cup. One more would be acceptable to. encourage the young peo- t* pie. I The hours for bathers are the same a as last year, with Saturday morning 0 mixed bathing from 10 to 1i.30. Coun- j try people will enjoy this arrange- p nient.- Everything promises well for a t . snccessful season.
